    Abstract
The aim of this study was to identify DNA markers that can be used to diagnose the susceptibility and potential risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in unborn babies. Data was collected from articles obtained from online databases such as Google Scholar, Pub Med and medical journals. Various articles reported that MTHFR, PPARγ2, APOE, and ACE gene polymorphisms are associated with the development and progression of T2DM. However, the studies’ results largely varied across different populations since T2DM is a complex multi-factorial polygenic disease. Further studies are therefore required to better identify and understand the significance of DNA makers and their direct correlation to predisposition to T2DM.
