Chlamydia Trachomatis Infection in Tubal Ectopic Pregnancy: Hospital Observational Study at Chattogram Medical Hospital
Abstract
Ectopic pregnancy is a complication of pregnancy where the fertilized egg is implanted in an
area other than the uterus. 98 % of ectopic pregnancy cases, the implantation of the egg occurs
within the fallopian tube. Ectopic pregnancy can happen due to many factors related to the
medication history and sexual and reproductive health of the patients. The aim of this research is
to study the association between ectopic pregnancy, Chlamydia trachomatis infection and other
risk factors. The study population included women admitted in Chattogram medical hospital,
women undergoing tubal ligation were identified as control subjects and women with ruptured
ectopic pregnancy were identified as cases. The biological test was conducted by using
polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect the presence of the Chlamydia bacteria in the
specimens. The collected data were analyzed using IBM Spss version 20.0. In this study, it was
proved that there is a strong association between the presence of Chlamydia trachomatis
infection with the occurrence of ectopic pregnancy. Also, the association between previous
pelvic diseases, pelvic bleeding, abdominal pain and previous parities was proven to be positive
with ectopic pregnancy. For future studies, using greater sample size in addition to investigating
the presence of other types of microbes is suggested for better results.
